This building has clear and interesting traces of antiquity. It is located on the ancient path of “Via Romana”, on the east of the junction which from “Via Aurelia” leads to San Pietro and Sant’Andrea di Rovereto.
It has a square plan and is divided into two volumes at different heights.
Unfortunately, there is no historical information about the building.
The presence of the arch has led some researchers to suggest the hypothesis of identification with the hospital of Sant’Orsola, a building dating back to the fifteenth century.
This hypothesis seems questionable, since the architectural details and visible materials seem to be attributable to a previous era. In all cases, the quality of the artefact appears to be higher than the standards used for small rural hospitals.
As for the dating of the artifact, right now we can speculate on the generic hypothesis of chronological location in the fourteenth century. Currently, the most viable way to attempt a historical reading of the building is through the technical analysis of the older materials in view.
